Not called angrybeard because he's an angry character - simply because his beard refuses to be brushed smooth. He was born with it - a very rugged cub, & his mother tried all methods of hair care to get his beard untangled and soft, but nothing she did would work. She felt like his beard was simply angry, & this is how she named him.
He's actually a lovely chap, as far as pirates go. He's the ship's cook, & is the only pirate on the ship that has an actual partner - Babette (who is also an anyu, but she's not part of the crew). He's quite a saucy bear, but loyal nonetheless.
